He is currently the head coach for the UMass Minutemen of the Hockey East conference. Carvel has been a head coach at St Lawrence University and an assistant coach in the National Hockey League (NHL) with both the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators.[1] CareerGreg Carvel is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, having played four years for the ice hockey program. After a short professional career Carvel became an assistant coach and progressed from high school through college and into the NHL as an assistant. After working for the Ottawa Senators for six seasons Carvel returned to college to work as an assistant under his former coach, Joe Marsh, for one campaign before Marsh retired. Carvel took over the program at his alma mater, getting the team to two conference semifinals and earning a Tim Taylor Award in four years.[2] In 2016 Carvel left St. Lawrence to take over at Massachusetts where the program had fallen on hard times since the retirement of Don Cahoon. After a terrible 5-win season his first year Carvel got the Minutemen to post 17 wins in year two, their highest total since 2010.[3] Head coaching record[4]{{CBB Yearly Record Start|type=coach |conference= |postseason= |poll=no }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = St. Lawrence Saints |startyear=2012 |conference=ECAC Hockey |endyear=2016 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2012–13 | name = St. Lawrence | overall = 18–16–4 | conference = 9–9–4 | confstanding = T–5th | postseason = ECAC Quarterfinals }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2013–14 | name = St. Lawrence | overall = 15–19–4 | conference = 7–11–4 | confstanding = 8th | postseason = ECAC Quarterfinals }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2014–15 | name = St. Lawrence | overall = 20–14–3 | conference = 14–7–1 | confstanding = 2nd | postseason = ECAC Semifinals }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2015–16 | name = St. Lawrence | overall = 19–14–4 | conference = 11–8–3 | confstanding = 4th | postseason = ECAC Semifinals }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = St. Lawrence | overall = 72–63–15 | confrecord = 41–35–12 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Massachusetts |startyear=2016 |conference=Hockey East |endyear= }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2016–17 | name = Massachusetts | overall = 5–29–2 | conference = 2–19–1 | confstanding = 12th | postseason = Hockey East Opening Round }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 2017–18 | name = Massachusetts | overall = 17–20–2 | conference = 9–13–2 | confstanding = 8th | postseason = Hockey East Quarterfinals }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Massachusetts | overall = 22–49–4 | confrecord = 11–32–3 }}{{CBB Yearly Record End | overall = 94-112-19 }} References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://senators.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=49172|title=Greg Carvel|publisher=}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://umassathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=967 |title=Greg Carvel |publisher=Massachusetts Minutemen |accessdate=2018-10-03}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.uscho.com/stats/history/massachusetts/mens-hockey/ |title=Massachusetts Men's Hockey Team History|publisher=USCHO.com |accessdate=2018-10-03}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.uscho.com/stats/coach/mid,1295/greg-carvel/ |title=Greg Carvel Year-by-Year Coaching Record |publisher=USCHO.com |accessdate=2018-10-03}} External links
