It is found only in western Mexico in the state of Michoacán.[1]Guardiola thompsonii is an to {{convert|100|cm|in|abbr=on}} tall. Leaves are up to {{convert|12|cm|in|abbr=on}} long. One plant will produce 15-20 flower heads in a flat-topped array per major branch.
