Nomwin, the western atoll,[2] and Murilo, the eastern one,[3] are located about 9 km apart, being the emergent parts of a twin-lobed seamount. Murilo and Nomwin each harbor a population of more than 1,000 people.[https://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/bitstream/10125/29745/1/vol65n4-497-505.pdf] They lie roughly 100 km to the north of Chuuk Lagoon.
