It features a Category I earthen dam built primarily for municipal water supply on Hard Labor Creek. The dam is approximately 1,670 feet long, 560 feet wide, and 98 feet high, with a crest elevation of 712 feet above mean sea level (MSL).[1] Developed partly from the incentive over the growing controversy of the Tri-state water dispute for potable water in the Atlanta area, the State of Georgia has 52 watershed regions draining primarily into either the Gulf of Mexico, or the Atlantic, with the reservoir existing in the Oconee River watershed, which ultimately by course of several lower watersheds drains into the Atlantic basin.[2] HistoryMarch 9, 2018 was the calendar date for public fishing Grand Opening (electric motors only). Engine 12 fire rescue is based off the edge boundary of the parking lot inside the gates to the reservoir's boat ramp area.[3] RecreationThe shores of the reservoir are private property, although the management hopes to acquire picnicking areas in the future. There are day parking and boat ramp facilities in operation.
