He has spent his childhood with his father Sankarapillai and mother Devakiamma in their family house near Thalathotta Siva temple. He was first instructed under Thakazhi Ramanpillai, Chennithala Kochupillai Panicker and Kurichi Kunjan Panicker. Guru Chengannur took him as his student and taught (Cholli Aattam)all major roles in Kathakali[2] He has started a Kathakali Troop & institute in Haripad to train students across South Kerala.
