Harry Loman was a British stage performer, comic, and afterwards a stage door keeper. Loman was discovered by Fred Karno and joined his troupe, appearing alongside Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel.[1] He then became the straight man in a double act, Lowe and Loman, which lasted for 25 years.[1] After a period of unemployment, he took up the position of stage doorman at the Criterion Theatre in London, remaining there for over 18 years.[1] He appeared as a "castaway" on the BBC Radio programme Desert Island Discs on 14 April 1973,[1] at age 92, having worked in the theatre for 80 years. He was awarded the Society of London Theatre Special Award (one of the Laurence Olivier Awards) in 1977.[2] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/castaway/58607914#p009n92r |title=Desert Island Discs - Castaway : Harry Loman |work=BBC Online |publisher=BBC |accessdate=14 August 2014}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.olivierawards.com/about/previous-winners/view/item98511/olivier-winners-1977/|title=Previous Winners: Olivier Winners 1977|publisher=Olivier Awards|accessdate=14 August 2014|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140310010515/http://www.olivierawards.com/about/previous-winners/view/item98511/olivier-winners-1977|archivedate=10 March 2014|df=dmy-all}} External links
