EducationLatif holds a PhD in transportation planning and traffic engineering, which he received in 1990.[1] CareerLatif worked as a road engineering professor at Ain Shams University.[1] In 2011, he was named as the dean of the faculty of engineering at Ain Shams University.[1] He is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and its political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP). In July 2012, Latif was cited as one of the potential minister nominees for social affairs.[2] However, he was not appointed minister to the first cabinet of Hisham Qandil. Later on 5 January 2013, he was appointed transport minister to the Qandil cabinet in a reshuffle, replacing Mohammad Rashad.[3] Latif is one of the eight FJP members serving in the cabinet.[4] He and other FJP members in the cabinet resigned from office on 4 July 2013 following the 2013 coup in Egypt.[5] Latif's term officially ended on 16 July when the interim cabinet led by Hazem Al Beblawi was formed.[6] ControversyOn 14 January 2013, a train crash killed at least 19 people and wounded nearly 120 in Badrashin.[7] After this event, Latif assumed political responsibility for the crash, but stated that he would not resign.[7] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news|title=Ministerial portfolios|url=http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/Print/951.aspx|accessdate=3 February 2013|newspaper=Weekly Ahram|date=9 January 2013|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130111002547/http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/Print/951.aspx|archivedate=11 January 2013|df=dmy-all}} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Latif, Hatem Abdel}}2. ^{{cite news|title=PM Qandil meets 11 nominees for various cabinet portfolios|url=http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContentPrint/1/0/48691/Egypt/0/PM-Qandil-meets--nominees-for-various-cabinet-port.aspx|accessdate=3 February 2013|newspaper=Ahram Online|date=25 July 2012}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Egypt's cabinet reshuffle to see new interior, finance ministers|url=http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/61841.aspx|accessdate=3 February 2013|newspaper=Ahram Online|date=5 January 2013}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Fouly|first=Mahmoud|title=Egypt's 10-minister cabinet reshuffle meets with opposition dissatisfaction|url=http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/world/2013-01/07/c_132084440.htm|accessdate=3 February 2013|newspaper=Xinhua|date=6 January 2013|location=Cairo}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Egypt Brotherhood ministers present official resignations|url=http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/75724/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-Brotherhood-ministers-present-official-resig.aspx|accessdate=18 July 2013|newspaper=Ahram Online|date=4 July 2013}} 6. ^{{cite news|last=Hauslohner|first=Abigail|title=Interim Egyptian cabinet sworn in|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/deadly-clashes-erupt-in-cairo-after-us-diplomats-visit/2013/07/16/8fef7e1c-edff-11e2-9008-61e94a7ea20d_story.html|accessdate=16 July 2013|newspaper=The Washington Post|date=16 July 2013|location=Cairo}} 7. ^1 {{cite news|last=Fadl|first=Hossam|title=Transport minister takes responsibility for train wreck, won't resign|url=http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/transport-minister-takes-responsibility-train-wreck-won-t-resign|accessdate=3 February 2013|newspaper=Egypt Independent|date=15 January 2013|agency=Almasry Alyoum}} 10 : Living people|Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood members|Ain Shams University faculty|Egyptian engineers|Egyptian academics|Freedom and Justice Party (Egypt) politicians|Government ministers of Egypt|Transport ministers|Qandil Cabinet|Year of birth missing (living people) |
