It is based in Liège, Belgium, with offices in nine other European countries, North America and Asia. It has a corporate partnership with Japanese company, Miroku Co.,Ltd..[4] Since 1997, Herstal Group has been 100% owned by the Walloon Region of Belgium, who purchased the remaining shares from GIAT.[2] In 1957, NATO adopted Winchester's (which later became part of Herstal Group.) 7.62×51mm ammunition design as standard. They later, in 1980, adopted Remington's 5.56×45mm ammunition design.
