Yellow flowers appear from winter to early summer.[2] The species was first formally described in 1817 by botanist Robert Brown in Augustin Pyramus de Candolle's Regni Vegetabilis Systema Naturale.[1] The species occurs in heath and dry forest in Queensland and New South Wales.[2] The subspecies H. fasciculata var. prostrata (Hook.)
