释义 |
The Hindu Heritage Summer Camp is located in Macedon, New York. The camp was founded in 1976 by Devi Parvati, a convert to Hinduism.[1] It began with six tents at a location in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. During the 1990s it moved to Macedon, where it could utilize the facilities of the India Community Center for the Rochester area.[1] Morning reveille at the camp is blown on a conch shell in homage to Vishnu, who is often depicted carrying one,[1] In addition to traditional summer camp activities such as drama and arts and crafts, campers are offered classes on Hindu philosophy, play Cricket, and learn the garba, a traditional dance from Gujarat.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite news|last1=Freedman|first1=Samuel G.|title=Building on U.S. Tradition, Camp for Hindu Children Strengthens Their Identity|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/23/us/building-on-us-tradition-camp-for-hindu-children-strengthens-their-identity.html|accessdate=24 August 2014|publisher=The New York Times|date=22 August 2014}} External links
