Matsumoto is a kinesiology graduate, with a minor degree in humanities, at Nihon University in Tokyo. Matsumoto competed as a member of the Japanese team in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Despite missing out the individual spot in the 200 m freestyle, he managed to place third at the Olympic trials in Tokyo (1:48.97) to earn a selection on the relay team.[3] Teaming with Yasunori Mononobe, Yoshihiro Okumura, and Sho Uchida in heat one, Matsumoto swam the anchor leg to close the race with a split of 1:48.62, but the Japanese team had to settle for seventh place and fourteenth overall in 7:10.31.[4][5] References1. ^1 {{cite web|title=Hisato Matsumoto|url=http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/BIO/Athlete/5/239945.shtml|publisher=Beijing 2008|accessdate=21 April 2013|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080910075923/http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/BIO/Athlete/5/239945.shtml|archivedate=10 September 2008|df=}} 2. ^{{cite sports-reference|Hisato Matsumoto|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ma/hisato-matsumoto-1.html|4 December 2012}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Japanese Olympic Trials: Add Hanae Itoh to Sub-Minute 100 Back Club|url=http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/17875.asp|publisher=Swimming World Magazine|date=19 April 2008|accessdate=4 December 2012|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110101205650/http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/17875.asp|archivedate=1 January 2011|df=}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Men's 4×200m Freestyle Relay Final|url=http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/swimming/resultsandschedules/rsc=SWM412100/index.html|work=Beijing 2008|publisher=NBC Olympics|accessdate=4 December 2012|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120821062459/http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/swimming/resultsandschedules/rsc=SWM412100/index.html|archivedate=21 August 2012|df=}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Lohn|first=John|title=Olympics, Swimming: U.S. Men Break 7:00 In Men's 800 Freestyle Relay|url=http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/18796.asp|publisher=Swimming World Magazine|date=12 August 2008|accessdate=6 April 2013|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120502200227/http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/18796.asp|archivedate=2 May 2012|df=}} External links
