Formerly a Canon of Limerick[2] he was appointed Bishop of Limerick on 24 November 1556. In a letter of 12 October 1561, the papal legate Fr David Wolfe SJ described all the bishops in Munster as 'adherents of the Queen'[3] In 1562 the Lord Lieutenant the Earl of Sussex,appointed to an ecclesiastical commission for enforcing the royal supremacy,[4] said that he had 'by the laws of the realm, forfeited his bishopric'[5] He in turn was deprived on 8 May 1571; and died in 1580 [6]Notes1. ^Moody, T.
