Hugh Greville Castle Spencely (1900 - 1983) was a British architect. He mostly worked in partnership with Anthony Minoprio (1900-1988), the two having been friends since they were schoolboys at Harrow School. CareerMinoprio and Spencely designed the 1932 extension to the Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool, founded in 1791 by Edward Rushton.[1] They also designed Fairacres, Roehampton, a Grade II listed four-storey apartment block at Roehampton Lane, Roehampton, London.[2] It was built in 1936, for the property developer Charles Kearley. The block of 64 flats in a semi-elliptical arc is modern in style with 1930s curved walls, but traditional in construction. It is very little altered since being built.[2] Personal lifeIn 1931, Spencely married Patricia Emily Manson-Bahr, the daughter of Sir Philip Manson-Bahr. They had four children, Janet Mary, Hugh David, John Despenser and Sally Catherine Spencely.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|title=The Blind School Extension|url=http://liverpoolwalks.co.uk/002/blind09v.htm|work=Friends of Liverpool Monuments|accessdate=1 April 2014}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Spencely, Hugh Greville}}2. ^1 {{NHLE|desc=Fairacres|num=1065482|accessdate=1 April 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=A History of the Blessig Family|url=http://www.decisionmodels.com/Blessigs/PDFs/PJ_Blessig2_Descendants.pdf|work=decisionmodels.com|accessdate=1 April 2014}} 4 : 1900 births|1983 deaths|People educated at Harrow School|20th-century British architects |
