He is known for his roles in the films Shell (2012), In Fear (2013), Not Another Happy Ending (2013), and Lost River (2014). Since 2013, he has portrayed Leo Fitz in the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Early lifeDe Caestecker was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He has a twin sister and is one of four children; his parents are both medical doctors.[4] His mother, Dr. Linda De Caestecker, is Director of Public Health (DPH) for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the largest health board in Scotland. She worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist, in different parts of the United Kingdom and in West Africa.[5] She is an honorary professor at the University of Glasgow.[6] Iain De Caestecker went to Hillhead Primary School[7] and successfully completed an HND in Acting and Performance at Langside College.[8] CareerDe Caestecker began his acting career at the young age of nine, when someone came into one of his acting classes and cast him in BBC short film Billy and Zorba (1999).[9] It was his first experience in front of the camera. He has been finding success ever since. In 2000, he had a minor role in the comedy horror film The Little Vampire, before appearing in the television show Lip Service. In that same year he first appeared on the cobbles as Adam Barlow in Coronation Street, UK's longest running and most watched TV soap opera. He would appear in more than 50 episodes (2001-2003) before the role got recast with an older actor. He played the lead in two high-profile BBC series — BAFTA-winning The Fades and Young James Herriot; the latter earned him a nomination for a BAFTA Scotland for Best Actor/Actress – Television.[10] Psychological horror film In Fear premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. In that same year he appeared in Filth and Not Another Happy Ending; the latter earned him his second BAFTA Scotland nomination, this time in the Best Actor/Actress – Film category. He also appeared in the music video for Gabrielle Aplin's song "Please Don't Say You Love Me". In 2013, De Caestecker landed a series regular role on the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..[11] That same year, De Caestecker was cast in the lead role of Ryan Gosling's feature directorial debut Lost River.[12] The film premiered in competition in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival,[13] and was released in the U.S. on 10 April 2015. In 2016, his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character was animated for an episode of Disney XD's Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister 6, the actor lent his voice.[14] In 2018, De Caestecker co-starred in the J. J. Abrams-produced war/horror film Overlord, which was released on 9 November. The plot follows American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines before D-Day who discover secret Nazi experiments.
