The type species Ictidodon agilis was named by South African paleontologist Robert Broom in 1925.[1] Broom classified Ictidodon in the Scaloposauridae, a group of small-bodied therocephalians that are now thought to be juvenile forms of larger therocephalians. Ictidodon and many other scaloposaurids are now classified as basal members of the clade Baurioidea.[2] References1. ^{{cite journal |last=Boonstra |first=L.D. |year=1954 |title=XXVII.—A Scaloposaurid from the Tapinocephalus-zone |journal=Journal of Natural History Series 12 |volume=7 |issue=74 |pages=153–157 |doi=10.1080/00222935408651711}} {{Therocephalia}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q625057}}{{paleo-therapsid-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal |last=Huttenlocker |first=A. |year=2009 |title=An investigation into the cladistic relationships and monophyly of therocephalian therapsids (Amniota: Synapsida) |journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society |volume=157 |issue=4 |pages=865–891 |doi=10.1111/j.1096-3642.2009.00538.x}} 5 : Lopingian synapsids of Africa|Baurioids|Therocephalia genera|Lopingian genus first appearances|Lopingian genus extinctions |
