College of Applied Science and Technology strives to produce individuals with skills in critical thinking. The college offers seven different departments including agriculture, criminal justice, family and consumer sciences, health sciences, information technology, kinesiology and recreation, military science, and technology.

Department of Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture at Illinois State is designed to prepare students to enter into their careers in the food and agriculture industry. There are ten different undergraduate programs offered within this department, as well as a graduate program offering a Master of Science degree with several sequences to choose from.

Illinois State University Farm

Illinois State maintains a university farm to support teaching, research, and outreach activities of the Department of Agriculture. Illinois State University Farm is located near Lexington, Illinois, approximately 18 miles northeast of Normal. Current enterprises at the University Farm include corn, soybeans, alfalfa, swine, beef, and sheep.[1] The University Farm expands the Department of Agriculture’s ability to do research. The external funding has increased, which has led to higher quality research for the students and faculty.

Department of Criminal Justice Sciences

The Department of Criminal Justice Sciences at Illinois State provides students with a system orientation to the field of criminal justice by applying the principles, as well as discussion of the behavioral and social issues of criminal justice. The program focuses on the building of knowledge in the areas of policing, courts, and corrections from a social science perspective. The program offers both an undergraduate and graduate degree in criminal justice.

Department of Family and Consumer Sciences

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State strives to apply research of the human environment and systems for the students to be able to enrich human lives and provide leadership. The departments offers bachelor's and master's degrees in several areas to get students prepared for their future career.[2]

Accreditation

Illinois State is one of two programs in Illinois, and one of 59 programs nationwide to be accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.[3] The program is also accredited with the American Dietetic Association, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals,[4] and the Council for Interior Design.[5]

Department of Health Sciences

With several areas to choose from, the Department of Health Sciences strives to educate students in a manner that turns them into successful professionals in their field. The Department is home to undergraduate programs in various health degrees specialized for students to find their niche.

School of Information Technology

The School of Information Technology focuses on preparing students for the ever-changing world of IT. The School offers premier undergraduate and distinguished graduate programs for the education of computing and telecommunications professionals.

Accreditation

Both the Information System and Computer Science programs are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).[6]

School of Kinesiology and Recreation

The School of Kinesiology and Recreation provides nationally acclaimed programs that promote physically active lifestyles and a healthy use of sport and leisure through exemplary teaching, scholarship and service. The School offers various specialized undergraduate and graduate programs that enable students to choose from a diverse range of prospective careers.

Military Science

Through classes and field training, the Army ROTC program provides students with the tools to become an Army Officer while pursuing a college degree. The program offers a unique sequence that is designed to be a four-year program of study; however, the program can be completed in as little as two years.

Department of Technology

The Department of Technology is recognized as one of the premier technology programs in the nation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This program is designed to prepare individuals for leadership positions as management-oriented technology professionals in six undergraduate programs and three areas of graduate study.

Accreditation

The Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering, who sets the industry standards for academic accreditation, certification and professional development, accredits Illinois States' Department of Technology.[7] The Department of Technology’s Construction Management is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, who advocates for quality construction education programs.[8] The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education accredits the Technology and Engineering Education sequence at Illinois State.[9]
