Ilmārs Starostīts participated in various Junior World Championships from 1993 to 1999. In 2001 he achieved the International Master title. Ilmārs Starostīts won the Latvian Chess Championship in 2002.[1] He has played in more than 80 important tournaments and won the Stockholm Elo Challenge in 2010,[2] and was second in Rodrigo Memorial (Ferrol, Spain) in 2010.[1] Ilmārs Starostīts played for Latvia in Chess Olympiads:[3]
