Imagen Ltd, formerly Cambridge Imaging Systems founded in 1996, is a software company based near Cambridge, UK that develops enterprise video platforms.{{citation needed|date=December 2016}}

It has one subsidiary company, Screenocean, based in London, UK, an online digital library containing program material and related metadata from the Channel 4 archive.

History

After pioneering the use of laser disks in the horticultural industry, Anthony Blake won a contract at the start of the first Gulf War to put surveillance imagery onto Sony CRV discs that could be searched via a Unix database by the Ministry of Defence.

In February 1996, Anthony Blake set up a new company, Cambridge Imaging Systems, with Paul McConkey, the programmer for the Ministry of Defence project. From focussing exclusively on the defence sector, Cambridge Imaging Systems now branched out into Corporate and Media & Entertainment.

In 2001, CIS developed a system to capture and distribute off-air television recordings for the BBC Monitoring service.

2002-3 marked another landmark project for the firm, digitizing and making publicly accessible the newsreel archives of British Pathé. This project ensured the digital preservation of 3,500 hours of filmed history, 90,000 individual items and 12 million stills.

Up to 2011, Cambridge Imaging Systems continued to deliver bespoke video management projects for a wide range of media companies and public sector organisations, including Imperial War Museums, BUFVC, Channel 4 and British Library.

In June, 2011, Anthony Blake's son Thomas Nigel Blake took over as CEO of Cambridge Imaging Systems to lead the company from a project approach to one of developing clearly defined software products. The Imagen product was launched in February 2012 and has undergone continual development since. The product became available as a SaaS platform in March 2013.

Cambridge Imagen Systems rebrands as Imagen Ltd

In August 2015, Cambridge Imaging Systems announced it would rebrand, becoming Imagen Ltd.

Current management, directions and major customers

In May 2017 Imagen announced the appointment of Charlie Horrell as its new CEO. After a successful track record at a range of blue chip businesses in the UK, Europe and Asia, the appointment of Horrell aligned with Imagen’s ambition to be the leading video management solution for media companies as well as to introduce its services to the enterprise market.

Tom Blake handed over the position after 6 years in charge, deciding to take a more ‘hands on’ role, providing strategic guidance for the company and working closely with key customers.

Notable current customers include:
  • Premier League - Fully branded, self-serve content portal used to distribute the latest matchday action as well as providing access to over 5,000 matches
