}} |notable_commanders= |anniversaries= }} The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) (R MON RE(M)) is the most senior regiment in the British Army Reserve, having given continuous loyal service to the crown since 1539. It is part of the reserve forces, and is the only remaining Militia unit in the British Army. HistoryThe regiment is also unusual in having the word Royal appear twice in its name. It gained the first "Royal" in 1804 when it was known as the Monmouth and Brecon Militia. The second was acquired in 1877 when the regiment transferred from an infantry unit into a Special Reserve section of the expanding Royal Engineers.[1] On 1 April 1967, the existing regiment absorbed 43rd Wessex Division RE (TA), 48 South Midland Division RE (TA) and 53rd Welsh Division RE (TA).[2] StructureThe Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) are at Monmouth Castle in Monmouth and its sub-units are:[3] - 100 Field Squadron (Militia) based in Cwmbran, Cardiff and Bristol. - 108 (Welsh) Field Squadron (recently reformed after disbandment in 2014) based in Swansea- 225 Field Squadron (Militia) based in Birmingham, Cannock and Stoke-on-Trent (which used to be the home of 125 Field Squadron, 75 Engr Regt). - Jersey Field Squadron (Royal Militia of the Island of Jersey), based in Jersey and GuernseyRegimental museumThe regimental museum of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers is in Monmouth Castle.[4] Order of precedence{{S-start}}{{order of precedence |before= Corps of Army Music | title= Order of Precedence| after= Honourable Artillery Company}}{{S-end}} References1. ^{{cite web|title=The Regimental Archive of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia)|url=http://www.monmouthcastlemuseum-archives.org.uk/|publisher=Monmouth Castle|accessdate=31 December 2011}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.win.tue.nl/~drenth/BritArmy/Lineage/RE/index.html#indep_re,|title=Corps of Royal Engineers, Volunteer Regiments|accessdate=31 August 2012|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070922082458/http://www.win.tue.nl/~drenth/BritArmy/Lineage/RE/index.html#indep_re,|archivedate=22 September 2007|df=}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://rmonrem.com/about-us/|title=About us|publisher=Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers|accessdate=15 June 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=The Castle and Regimental Museum|url=http://www.monmouthcastlemuseum.org.uk/|publisher=Monmouth Castle Museum|accessdate=31 December 2011}} External links{{commons category}}
