During his sporting career, Angelov also trained for Liulin Sports Club in Sofia under his personal coaches Valentin Yordanov and Liliana Hristeva.[2] Angelov competed in a backstroke double at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He posted FINA B-standards of 57.98 (100 m backstroke) and 2:06.48 (200 m backstroke) from the Croatian Open Championships in Dubrovnik.[3][4] On the second day of the Games, Angelov placed thirty-ninth in the 100 m backstroke. Swimming in heat three, he held off Yugoslavia's Milorad Čavić to earn a sixth spot by 0.22 of a second in 58.03.[5][6] Three days later, in the 200 m backstroke, Angelov challenged five other swimmers in heat one, including Hong Kong's Alex Fong, who later became one of the nation's popular singers. He came up short in third place and fortieth overall at 2:07.30, more than half a second (0.50) off his entry time.[7] References1. ^{{cite sports-reference|Ivan Angelov|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/an/ivan-angelov-1.html|2 June 2013}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Angelov, Ivan}}{{Bulgaria-swimming-bio-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|title=ОЛИМПИАДА: Иван Ангелов 38-ти в плуването на 200 метра гръб|trans-title=Olympics: Swimmer Ivan Angelov finished 38th in 200 m backstroke|language=Bulgarian|url=http://news.ibox.bg/news/id_207152151|publisher=Bulgarian News Agency|date=20 September 2000|accessdate=2 June 2013}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Swimming – Men's 100m Backstroke Startlist (Heat 3)|url=http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000100060006000000FFFFFFFFFFFF00|format=PDF|work=Sydney 2000|publisher=Omega Timing|accessdate=23 April 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Swimming – Men's 200m Backstroke Startlist (Heat 1)|url=http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=00010006000D000000FFFFFFFFFFFF00|format=PDF|work=Sydney 2000|publisher=Omega Timing|accessdate=23 April 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Sydney 2000: Swimming – Men's 100m Backstroke Heat 3 |url=http://www.la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110819181023/http://la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |dead-url=yes |archive-date=19 August 2011 |format=PDF |work=Sydney 2000 |publisher=LA84 Foundation |page=275 |accessdate=23 April 2013 }} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Dolan breaks own world mark in 400 IM|url=http://www.canoe.ca/2000GamesSwimming/sep17_dol.html|publisher=Canoe.ca|date=17 September 2000|accessdate=28 May 2013}} 7. ^{{cite web|title=Sydney 2000: Swimming – Men's 200m Backstroke Heat 1 |url=http://www.la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110819181023/http://la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |dead-url=yes |archive-date=19 August 2011 |format=PDF |work=Sydney 2000 |publisher=LA84 Foundation |page=283 |accessdate=23 April 2013 }} 7 : 1979 births|Living people|Bulgarian male swimmers|Olympic swimmers of Bulgaria|Swimmers at the 2000 Summer Olympics|Male backstroke swimmers|People from Vratsa |
