He received a Doctor Theologiae degree from the University of Göttingen in 2003 and went on to teach at Heidelberg University. He was awarded the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for 2011-2012.[3] He was the first biblical scholar to win this award in many years. In addition to authoring many articles and editing volumes,[4] Wright's book Rebuilding Identity: The Nehemiah-Memoir and its Earliest Readers[5] was the 2008 winner of the Sir John Templeton Award for Theological Promise. In 2013 he published the first monograph in the humanities as a fully enhanced ebook on King David (King David and His Reign Revisited) for Apple iBooks. It was featured in the Chronicle for Higher Education.[6] An expanded version of this book was published by Cambridge University Press: David, King of Israel, and Caleb in Biblical Memory. In 2015 it received a PROSE Awards honorable mention from the Association of American Publishers. In 2015 Wright's book was awarded the inaugural Nancy Lapp Popular Book Award of the American Schools of Oriental Research.[7] In the summer of 2014 Wright taught a MOOC course, "The Bible's Prehistory, Purpose, and Political Future", through Coursera and Emory University to over 27,000 students.[8] It has received high reviews.[9] References1. ^{{cite web|url= http://thetorah.com/ten-questions-jacob-wright/|title= Ten Questions for a Bible Scholar - Prof. Jacob Wright - TheTorah.com|work= TheTorah.com}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Wright, Jacob L}}2. ^{{cite web|url= http://www.candler.emory.edu/faculty/faculty-bios/wright.cfm|title= Dr. Jacob L.
