Away from the major centers of the national sport, Jader has always struggled to participate in competitions and consequently improve their performance. In 2002, discouraged with the situation in his hometown, dropped everything to pursue a dream in Brasilia. But then he began to reap the rewards of their dedication.[2] He was at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, where he finished 31st in the 50-metre freestyle,[3] 30th in the 100-metre freestyle [4] and 12th in the 4×100-metre freestyle.[5] At the 2003 Pan American Games, in Santo Domingo, Jader won the gold medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle, along with Gustavo Borges, Fernando Scherer and Carlos Jayme.[6] He also finished 6th in the 50-metre freestyle, and 5th in the 100-metre freestyle.[7] Jader competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, in Athens, where he finished 12th in the 4×100-metre freestyle, 15th in the 4×100-metre medley, and 33rd in the 100-metre freestyle.[8] In the 4×100-metre freestyle, the Brazilian legend Gustavo Borges said goodbye to swimming at the age of 31.[9] After the Olympics, he lost his sponsorship and stopped swimming. However, he returned in 2005.[10] At the 2006 South American Games held in Buenos Aires, Souza won the gold medal in the 50-metre butterfly[11] , the silver medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle, and the bronze medal in the 50-metre freestyle.[12] On January 2009, he retired from professional swimming.[13] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Sports Reference profile |work=Sports Reference |year=2013 |url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/so/jader-souza-1.html |accessdate=April 19, 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130204014431/http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/so/jader-souza-1.html |archivedate=February 4, 2013 |df= }} {{Footer Pan American Champions 4x100 m Freestyle Men}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Souza, Jader}}2. ^{{cite web | title = UOL profile | work = UOL | year = 2004 | url = http://esporte.uol.com.br/olimpiadas/brasileiros/natacao/souza.jhtm|accessdate = April 19, 2013|language=pt}} 3. ^{{cite web | title = Results of the 50-metre freestyle at 2003 Barcelona | work = OmegaTiming | date = July 25, 2003 | url = http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000103050048000000FFFFFFFFFFFF01|accessdate = April 19, 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web | title = Results of the 100-metre freestyle at 2003 Barcelona | work = OmegaTiming | date = July 23, 2003 | url = http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000103050029000000FFFFFFFFFFFF01|accessdate = April 19, 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web | title = Results of the 4×100-metre freestyle at 2003 Barcelona | work = OmegaTiming | date = July 20, 2003 | url = http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000103050007000000FFFFFFFFFFFF01|accessdate = April 19, 2013}} 6. ^{{cite web | title = Brazil medals at 2003 Pan | work = UOL | year = 2007 | url = http://pan.uol.com.br/pan/2007/historia/2003/nopodio.jhtm |accessdate = April 19, 2013|language=pt}} 7. ^{{cite web | title = Results of the 2003 Pan Am Games | work = USA Swimming | year = 2003 | url = http://www.usaswimming.org/_Rainbow/Documents/631a6027-48bc-4439-81f0-3600c72bb51d/03_pan_ams.pdf|accessdate = April 19, 2013}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Sports Reference profile |work=Sports Reference |year=2013 |url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/so/jader-souza-1.html |accessdate=April 19, 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130204014431/http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/so/jader-souza-1.html |archivedate=February 4, 2013 |df= }} 9. ^{{cite web | title = Gustavo Borges' History | work = Gustavo Borges-Official Site | year = 2012 | url = http://www.gustavoborges.com.br/gustavoborges/trajetoria/|accessdate = April 19, 2013|language=pt}} 10. ^{{cite web | title = Jader Souza going back! | work = Best Swimming | date = May 17, 2005 | url = http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2005/05/17/jader-souza-vai-voltar-3079/ | accessdate = April 19, 2013 | language = pt | deadurl = yes | archiveurl = https://archive.is/20130628020219/http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2005/05/17/jader-souza-vai-voltar-3079/ | archivedate = June 28, 2013 | df = }} 11. ^{{cite web|title=Brazilian swimming achievement 12 medals |work=CBDA |date=November 16, 2006 |url=http://www.cbda.org.br/noticias/natacao-brasileira-conquista-12-medalhas-id-7540 |archive-url=https://archive.is/20130410025510/http://www.cbda.org.br/noticias/natacao-brasileira-conquista-12-medalhas-id-7540 |dead-url=yes |archive-date=April 10, 2013 |accessdate=April 19, 2013 |language=pt }} 12. ^{{cite web|title=Luiz Arapiraca shines again in Argentina |work=CBDA |date=November 18, 2006 |url=http://www.cbda.org.br/noticias/luiz-arapiraca-brilha-novamente-na-argentina-id-7549 |archive-url=https://archive.is/20130422235032/http://www.cbda.org.br/noticias/luiz-arapiraca-brilha-novamente-na-argentina-id-7549 |dead-url=yes |archive-date=April 22, 2013 |accessdate=April 19, 2013 |language=pt }} 13. ^{{cite web | title = Jader Souza, another hanging the shorts | work = Best Swimming | date = January 20, 2009 | url = http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2009/01/20/jder-souza-mais-um-pendurando-o-calo-7194/ | accessdate = April 19, 2013 | language = pt | deadurl = yes | archiveurl = https://archive.is/20130628013446/http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2009/01/20/jder-souza-mais-um-pendurando-o-calo-7194/ | archivedate = June 28, 2013 | df = }} 14 : 1982 births|Living people|Brazilian male swimmers|Male freestyle swimmers|Olympic swimmers of Brazil|Swimmers at the 2003 Pan American Games|Swimmers at the 2004 Summer Olympics|Pan American Games gold medalists for Brazil|Pan American Games medalists in swimming|People from Macapá|South American Games gold medalists for Brazil|South American Games silver medalists for Brazil|South American Games bronze medalists for Brazil|South American Games medalists in swimming |
