Prior to turning professional, Sixsmith attended the College of the Holy Cross where he played four seasons of NCAA Division I college hockey with the Holy Cross Crusaders men's ice hockey team. In his senior year, Sixsmith was named a semi-finalists for the 2007 Walter Brown Award which is presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.[1] Awards and honors
