The lake, some {{convert|14|mi|km|0}} long and {{convert|7|mi|km|0}} wide, is formed by the confluence of the Neches and Sabine rivers. Through its tidal outlet {{convert|5|mi|km|0}} long, Sabine Pass, Sabine Lake drains some {{convert|50000|sqmi|km2|sigfig=1}} of Texas and Louisiana into the Gulf of Mexico. The lake borders Jefferson County, Texas, Orange County, Texas, Cameron Parish, Louisiana, and the city of Port Arthur, Texas.^[1]
