Jedediah Louisa Bila (born January 29, 1979) is an American television host, author, and columnist. A self-identified libertarian-conservative,[4] she is known for her 2016–2017 role as a co-host of ABC's The View and as a Fox News contributor on shows such as The Five, Red Eye and Outnumbered.[5][6] She has been a featured columnist for a variety of online publications, including FoxNews.com, Verily, Human Events, The Daily Caller, and Townhall.[7] BackgroundBila was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up on Staten Island.[8][9] From a young age, she was exposed to political discourse amongst her family, who encouraged her to form her own opinions and debate the issues.[10] Bila is of Italian and Sicilian descent.[11] In 2000, Bila graduated as valedictorian from Wagner College, with a B.A. in Spanish. She subsequently earned an M.A. in Spanish literature from Columbia University.[9] Post graduation, Bila toyed with the idea of becoming an actress, as her mother ran a performing arts studio. However, she ultimately decided to teach and in 2005, she began teaching in New York.[10] Over the years, she taught creative writing, Spanish, and improvisation to middle school, high school, and college students.[12] She also served as a teacher, student advisor, and academic dean at the Birch Wathen Lenox preparatory school on the Upper East Side.[10] Television careerBila's transition from education to politics came unexpectedly in 2009 when she reviewed talk radio host Mark Levin's book, Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, on her blog. Levin later read the review on air, prompting Fox News' Sean Hannity to invite her on his television show.[10] In 2011, she appeared as a guest on Hannity and Red Eye, soon expanding her role as commentator to other networks, including CNBC and MSNBC.[13] In 2013, she joined the Fox News team and in April 2014, she began working as a co-host and panelist on Outnumbered, The Five, and other programs.[14][15] In August 2016, Bila announced her departure from Fox News to join ABC's The View as a permanent co-host for the show's 20th season.[16] While on the show, Bila served as the conservative voice to contrast the liberal co-hosts. During her run, she addressed controversial topics with guests ranging from politicians Hillary Clinton and Donald Rumsfeld to performers such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and Sarah Jessica Parker.[17] Bila departed The View on September 18, 2017.[18] Bila made a return guest appearance on The View on October 17, 2018. In 2017, Bila hosted the Lifetime special Abby Tells All,[19] and in 2018 she appeared on The Greg Gutfeld Show,[20] co-hosted The Five, and appeared on several Sirius XM shows.[21] BooksIn 2011, Bila published her first book, Outnumbered: Chronicles of a Manhattan Conservative, an autobiographical recounting of her experiences as a conservative living and teaching in Manhattan during the 2008 presidential election.[22] In 2018, her second book, #DONOTDISTURB: How I Ghosted My Cell Phone to Take Back My Life, was published by HarperCollins.[23] Personal lifeIn early 2018, after an eight-month engagement, Bila married Jeremy Scher, a corporate strategist and graduate of Rice University.[24] Bila has stated that she is not a Democrat or a Republican, and that she has a "strong libertarian streak."[25][26] She is a registered independent.[3] Awards and nominations
