James Oliver Hallet (born March 30, 1960)[1] is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour.

Hallet was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts.[1] He played college golf at Bryant College, where he was a four-time Division II All-American.[1]

Hallet first came to prominence while still an amateur at the 1983 Masters Tournament, where he opened with a 68, then the second-lowest amateur round in Masters history, and held a share of the lead after 28 holes.[2] Hallet turned professional in 1984,[1] but spent his first four years playing in Asia and on mini-tours as he struggled to establish a career.

Hallet was runner-up (behind John Huston) at the 1987 qualifying school.[1] He would go on to play the PGA Tour from 1988 to 1993, playing over 200 tournaments and earning more than one million dollars in prize money. Although he never won on tour, he twice lost in playoffs, to Kenny Knox at the 1990 Buick Southern Open, and to Ian Woosnam at the 1991 USF&G Classic. Since losing his card at the end of 1993, Hallet has played rarely on tour, and as of 2008 he was teaching at his local club in Massachusetts.[3]
