Once complete the bridge, at {{convert|461|m|ft|abbr=on}}, will be the fourth highest in the world. The bridge will form part of the G4216 Chengdu–Lijiang Expressway carrying traffic over the Jinsha River. The bridge construction began in 2016 and it is expected to open in 2020. The main span of the bridge will be {{convert|1386|m|ft|abbr=on}} making it one of the longest ever built. The bridge crosses the river 1.4km upstream from the Jin'anqiao Dam. Due to the formation of the reservoir behind the dam, the full clearance to the original river level will not be visible. Original designThe original design of the expressway crossed the Jinsha River {{convert|30|km|m|abbr=on}} 20km downstream at the village of Taku. The Taku Bridge was also a suspension bridge design.
