The dam was constructed to conserve water and produce hydroelectricity.[2] The {{Convert|136.5|m|ft|0|abbr=on}} tall dam withholds a reservoir of {{Convert|943000000|m3|acre.ft|0|abbr=on}} and its power station has an installed capacity of 300 MW.
