He was born Muchabaya Momberume (also spelled Ngomberume) near Bondwe Mountain in the Marange Tribal Trustland of Southern Rhodesia in 1912. He took the name Johane from John the Baptist and Marange from the tribal name, of the Marange Reserve. He was educated as a Methodist.He was born in 1912 and at the age of 5years he began to receive the Holy Spirit(1917) In 1932, when Marange was 20, he returned from journeys in the bush announcing a series of visions and encounters with Jesus Christ, calling him to be a Holy Spirit guided itinerant preacher and establish a new African church.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] In his visions he was also admonished that he should baptize people and observe the [Saturday] Sabbath (Sabata In Shona). He founded the largest independent church in Central Africa.[9] The main gathering of the church occurred at Passover feast named PASKA at Marange's village, lasting for seventeen days, and ending with communion. John Marange's first born sons were all to become Priests following a sequence whereby first son from house 1 and first son from house 3 will be in charge,the first son of house 3 would be the next priest in line followed by house 5,7,9,11 upto house 17(as John Marange had 17 wives)after John Marange's passing, his son Abel(first son of house 1) became the Priest at that time from 1963 until 1992 when Abel passed on. On his death his sons, Abero Momberume/ Abel Momberume(who was the current junior priest), Makebo Momberume/McAbes Momberume (who was assistant to the junior priest as Clemence(first son of house 3 was still too young to be assistant to his brother Abel ), and Judah Momberume(head junior prophet) took over leadership of the church.[10][11] The next Priest in line to the throne was Clemence(first son of house 3), so in 1992 Clemence was still young to become the Priest then a decision was made that Noah Taguta (Son of John Marange's brother (Anorodi/Arnold born Taguta Momberume) )would become a Priest while awaiting Clemence Momberume to become the next Priest. When these decisions were being made Noah Taguta and other members of the congregation stole the REGALIA and ROD of the late Abel Momberume and thats when there was a faction in the African Apostolic Church. Noah Taguta had his church named Apostolic Church (Taguta). A lot of people were not aware of the plot that was made by Noah Taguta and some accomplices to steal the church from Clemence Momberume who was next in line to the priesthood throne. [12]See also
