"Jack" Flood (June 24, 1939 – July 26, 2016) was an American politician who was Sheriff of Norfolk County, Massachusetts from 1996 to 1999 and a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1981 to 1991.[1] In 1990, Flood was a candidate for Governor of Massachusetts. His campaign came to an end at the Democratic Convention when he failed to get the 15% necessary to appear on the primary ballot.[2] During the general election, Flood frequently criticized Democratic nominee John Silber, who went on to lose to Republican William Weld. Weld later named Flood to his transition team.[3] Flood was nominated for a judgeship twice in 1993, but he was rejected both times by the Massachusetts Governor's Council.[4] In 1996, Flood was appointed by Weld to the vacant sheriff's position in Norfolk County.[5] He ran as a Republican for a full term in 1998, but lost to Democrat Michael G. Bellotti.[6] Prior to being appointed sheriff, Flood was a panelist on the WCVB-TV Sunday morning talk show Five on Five.[5] He died on July 26, 2016.[7] References1. ^{{cite book |author= |coauthors= |title=1991–1992 Public Officers of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts |year= |publisher= |quote= |url=https://archive.org/stream/publicofficer sof19891990bost#page/132/mode/2up |isbn= }} {{DEFAULTSORT:Flood, John H.}}{{Massachusetts-MARepresentative-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|title=Massachusetts Dems pick Bellotti for governor at picketed session|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=0XUcAAAAIBAJ&sjid=zmMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6874,392043&dq|accessdate=21 April 2011|newspaper=Associated Press|date=June 3, 1990}} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Locy|first=Toni|title=Governor's Council rejects Food for judgeship|url=https://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/boston/access/61794966.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT|accessdate=21 April 2011|newspaper=Boston Globe|date=July 15, 1993}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Locy|first=Toni|title=Flood again denied in bid to be judge Weld foiled in 4-3 Executive Council vote|url=https://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/boston/access/61819532.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT|accessdate=21 April 2011|newspaper=Boston Globe|date=September 30, 1993}} 5. ^1 {{cite news|title=Weld Names Flood to Sheriff Post|newspaper=Worcester Telegram & Gazette|date=November 21, 1996}} 6. ^{{cite book |author= |coauthors= |title=Massachusetts Election Statistics 1998 |year= |publisher= |quote= |url=https://archive.org/stream/massachusettsele1998mass#page/398/mode/2up |isbn= }} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/wickedlocal-walpole/obituary.aspx?pid=180809386}} 11 : 1939 births|2016 deaths|Massachusetts sheriffs|Members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives|People from Canton, Massachusetts|Suffolk University alumni|Northeastern University alumni|Suffolk University Law School alumni|Massachusetts Democrats|Massachusetts Republicans|People from Norwood, Massachusetts |
