It specializes in sport and has a capacity about 1100 students aged 11–18.[1] HistoryThe school was formerly named Thamesbridge college, and before that it was named Ashmead. Alumni includes Ricky Gervais and Iain Waite. On November 2017, the school came out of measures following a positive OFSTED inspection. The current headteacher is Camilla Thornalley. The school has had problems in the past but is working hard to overcome them with a committed group of staff. Many people try to demonize Whitley and blame gang culture but social deprivation and the associated impacts on literacy and emotional literacy are the real issues behind its problems. Until work is done to support families and address the root causes of this poverty the cycle may well continue.
