John Henry Ryan II (born August 19, 1987), also known as John the Blind, is an American singer, multi-platinum songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Rochester, New York. Ryan is best known for co-writing and co-producing One Direction's last four albums and many of their singles. He has written songs for many acclaimed artists. His compositions and productions have sold over 30 million units worldwide.

Career

Ryan was born and raised in Pittsford, New York. He attended McQuaid Jesuit High School, a Catholic college-preparatory school in Rochester, NY. Following his 2006 graduation, John enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.[1] While attending Berklee, John was a student of Professor of Guitar, Lauren Passarelli. After making several connections with his colleagues, all of whom were from Los Angeles, John soon found his demos being submitted and praised by a studio there, Family Affair Productions, especially the Team Manager and Talent Coordinator Damon Bunetta. With this in mind and a vision to set upon, John moved to L.A. one week after graduating from Berklee in 2010, and joined the team. In 2012, John teamed up with a co-worker whom worked with Sony Music Entertainment and the hit television show The X Factor USA, where he was introduced to bands and artists such as One Direction, Pharrell Williams, Pitbull, and Sam Smith. In November 2013, he signed a publishing contract with Big Deal Music and BMG Chrysalis.[2]

Ryan has released his own music, his newest single Two Months dropped in January 2019.

He has written several songs for British boyband One Direction, including "Best Song Ever", "Story of My Life", "Steal My Girl" and "Perfect", among others. Additionally he has written for Jason Derulo, Maroon 5, John Legend, Cody Simpson, JLS, Fifth Harmony, Emblem3, Nick Jonas, Thomas Rhett, Olly Murs, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Pitbull, Chris Brown, Hey Violet, DJ Snake, Cobra Starship and Walk the Moon amongst others.

Other songs written include Maroon 5's "Don't Wanna Know", John Legend's "Love Me Now", Pitbull's "Fireball" and Niall Horan song "Slow Hands". He also co-wrote and produced Maroon 5's song "Best 4 U".

Ryan was featured on Pitbull's "Fireball" (featuring John Ryan), DJ Snake's "Sober" (featuring JRY), and in 2017 released "Pray" featuring Rooty on the Fifty Shades Darker: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
