Joshua Hinchcliffe (May 24, 1868 – 1954) was an English-born Anglican clergyman and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Victoria City in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1920 to 1933 as a Conservative. He was born in Bradford, the son of Thomas Hinchcliffe and Mary H. Gibbons, and came to Canada in 1890. He was educated at St. John's College in Winnipeg.[2] Hinchcliffe was named the first rector of St. Luke's Anglican Church in Red Deer, Alberta in 1899. He was also an architect, master stonemason and carpenter; he drew up plans for the church and supervised most of the construction.[1] Hinchcliffe was married twice: first to Mary A. Mason in 1890 and then to Jessie H. Tilston in 1916. He served as a chaplain in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.[2] Hinchcliffe was Minister of Education[3] and later Minister of Lands[4] in the provincial cabinet. He died in 1954.[5] References1. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.reddeeradvocate.com/lifestyles/Historic_St_Lukes_52002222.html?period=W&mpStartDate=05-04-2010& |title=Historic St. Luke's |newspaper=Red Deer Advocate |date=July 29, 2009 |accessdate=2011-10-27}} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Hinchcliffe, Joshua}}{{BritishColumbia-politician-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite book |title=Canadian Parliamentary Guide 1926 |year=1926 |last=Normandin |first=A L}} 3. ^{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=JyFkAAAAIBAJ&sjid=THsNAAAAIBAJ&pg=6510,3803456 |newspaper=Calgary Herald |date=January 31, 1930 |page=2 |title=Measure Introduced to Aid Dependents Great War Veterans |accessdate=2011-10-27}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/library/history.htm |title=Forest Service History |publisher=Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations |accessdate=2011-10-31}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://ww2.glenbow.org/search/archivesPhotosResults.aspx?AC=PREV_BLOCK&XC=/search/archivesPhotosResults.aspx&BU=&TN=IMAGEBAN&SN=AUTO30205&SE=1762&RN=10&MR=10&TR=0&TX=1000&ES=0&CS=0&XP=&RF=WebResults&EF=&DF=WebResultsDetails&RL=0&EL=0&DL=0&NP=255&ID=&MF=WPEngMsg.ini&MQ=&TI=0&DT=&ST=0&IR=5137&NR=0&NB=0&SV=0&BG=&FG=&QS=ArchivesPhotosSearch&OEX=ISO-8859-1&OEH=ISO-8859-1 |publisher=Glenbow Museum |title=Log house, Pincher Creek, Alberta |accessdate=2011-10-27}} 7 : 1870 births|1984 deaths|People from Bradford|Canadian Anglican priests|British Columbia Conservative Party MLAs|English emigrants to Canada|University of Manitoba alumni |
