He holds various government positions during the Viceroyalty of Peru, serving as alcalde and regidor of Buenos Aires.[2] BiographyJuan was born in Buenos Aires, christened on July 23, 1643 in the Metropolitan Cathedral, their parents were Amador Báez de Alpoim and Ana Romero de Santa Cruz, belonging to one of the most prestigious families of the city.[3] He was married twice, first to Ana Hurtado de Mendoza, daughter of Pedro Hurtado de Mendoza and Juana Olguín de Ulloa Melo. And second with Sabina Jacinta de Lavayén, daughter of Agustín de Lavayén Hormaechea, born in San Sebastián and Juana de Tapia Vargas Cervantes Rangel, born in the city and daughter of a Spanish family.[4] His first wife was a descendant of Pedro Álvarez Holguín de Ulloa and Vasco Fernandes Coutinho, conquerors of Spanish and Portuguese origin.[5] In 1667 Alpoim was elected alcalde of second vote. In the following year he was appointed prosecutor of Buenos Aires.[6] He also served as Captain of militias of Buenos Aires Province.[7] And obtained the honorific post of Alférez real of the city.[8] In 1700 Juan Báez de Alpoim was appointed by the Governor of Buenos Aires Don Agustín de Robles, to occupy the position of Captain of the Cavalry of the Real Fortaleza de San Juan Baltasar de Austria,[9] in replacement of Miguel de Riglos Bástida.
