His regular playing position is flanker. CareerHe started his career at the {{Rut Sharks (Currie Cup)}}, making his debut for their Vodacom Cup side, the {{Rut Natal Wildebeest}} in the 2008 Vodacom Cup competition. He was included in the {{Rut Sharks}} squad for the 2009 Super 14 season and even named on the bench for their match against the {{Rut Force}} in Perth, but failed to make an appearance.[1] Lack of game time saw him move to the {{Rut Griquas}} in 2010, where he spent the next three years and made close to fifty appearances. During this spell, he also represented the {{Rut Cheetahs}} during the 2012 Super Rugby season. He returned to the {{Rut Sharks (Currie Cup)}} prior to the 2013 Currie Cup Premier Division.[2] In 2014, Downey signed a contract with Suntory Sungoliath.[3] External links
