Freguesia de Santo António is a freguesia on the western portion of the Macau Peninsula. It has the highest population density in Macau (98,776 persons per km²). The entire area is reclaimed from the sea.

It is north of Freguesia da Sé, south of Freguesia de N. Sra. de Fátima, west of Freguesia de S. Lázaro, and east of Inner Harbour.

Population statistics as of 2006:

  • Area: 1.1. km² (16.4% of the peninsula)
  • Population: 109,000 (31.7% of the peninsular population)

The parish houses a private hospital, Kiang Wu Hospital.[1]

The Macau government operates the Centro de Saúde Macau Norte (筷子基衛生中心) in Bairro Fai Chi Kei.[2]

Public libraries

Macao Public Library operates three two branches in the parish:[21]
  • Patane Library (Biblioteca do Patane; 沙梨頭圖書館)
    • It occupies seven buildings first built in the 1930s and renovated by the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau. The library itself opened on 9 December 2016.[21]
  • Red Market Library (Biblioteca do Mercado Vermelho; 紅街市圖書館)
    • It occupies {{convert|260|sqm|sqft}} in a former post office. It first opened on 24 July 2012.[21]
  • Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Luis de Camões Garden (Biblioteca de Wong Ieng Kuan no Jardim Luis de Camões; 白鴿巢公園黃營均圖書館)
    • It is in a {{convert|675|sqm|sqft|adj=on}} two story facility and first opened in 1999. It is one of several libraries built with funding by Wong Ieng Kuan (黃營均), a Chinese Peruvian.[21]
