She attended Colorado College and graduated in 1998. Her debut novel The Descendants was adapted by Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash[1] into the highly acclaimed 2011 American film The Descendants, starring George Clooney.[2] Hemmings had previously published a collection of her stories in the book House of Thieves.
