Standring was a left-handed batsman who bowled left-arm medium-fast. He was born in Luton, Bedfordshire. Standring played for Luton Town CC from 19 till he was 36 winning the Herts League on 2 occasions and the Beds League 3 times and was Captain for 2 years Standring also got to the final stages of the Lords Taverners Award at MCC Standring made his debut for Bedfordshire in the 1984 Minor Counties Championship against Staffordshire.
