Bunch currently serves as the Artistic Director of Fear No Music[2] and teaches at Portland State University,[3] Reed College,[4] and for the Portland Youth Philharmonic.[5] Known for "amalgamating traditional American musical forms... and European-based classical music,"[6] Bunch's work for chamber ensemble, orchestra and ballet often incorporates elements of hip hop, jazz, bluegrass and funk to critical acclaim.[7][8][9] Over sixty American orchestras have performed Bunch’s music; his film credits include The Bellman Equation and The Argentum Prophecies; and his discography includes recordings on Sony/BMG, EMI Classics, Koch, Kleos Classics, RCA, Naxos, Pony Canyon, GENUIN, Capstone, MSR Classics, Innova, ARS, and Crystal labels.[10] Education and careerBunch performed in the Portland Youth Philharmonic for five years (1986–1991). He graduated from Wilson High School (Portland, Oregon) in 1991 then attended The Juilliard School, where he earned degrees in viola performance and composition.[11][12] In March 2010 Bunch returned to Portland, Oregon, for a performance of his orchestral work "For Our Children's Children," by the Portland Youth Philharmonic. On the same concert, he joined the orchestra onstage to perform Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, which he has said inspired him in part to become a composer.[12][13] Bunch's composition String Circle No. 1 is featured on the 2012 album Heavy from string quartet ETHEL.[14] In June 2013, Bunch was named the interim director of the Fear No Music Young Composers Project.[15][16] See also
