He spent eleven years as a journalist and news reader with the local Prime Television station. He left Prime in 2004 to work with Hunter New England Area Health Service as a communications and business development manager. He stood unsuccessfully for the Nationals in Tamworth at the 2007 election.[6] Anderson was a director of Centreboard Media, a local public relations and marketing consultancy with experience in events such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival.[6][7] Anderson has been active in community groups in the region, including Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the Salvation Army, the St Nicholas School Board, and Ronald McDonald House in Tamworth.[8] In his spare time Anderson plays rhythm guitar and sings in a local band called Splashpool. Political careerIn a first initiative for the Nationals, Anderson was endorsed following a plebiscite where 4,293 local people voted from a pre-selected field of four candidates. The vote was open to members of the Nationals and the general community, voting at eight polling stations in the electorate, open to anyone on the NSW electoral roll. Anderson defeated James Treloar, the local mayor, on preferences.[1][9][10][11] At the March 2011 elections, Anderson was elected Member for Tamworth and received a swing of 14.7 points, defeating the sitting independent Peter Draper, winning 57.8 per cent of the vote on a two-party-preferred basis.[12] Following the 2019 state election, Anderson was sworn in as the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation in the second Berejiklian ministry, with effect from 2 April 2019.[13] References1. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://www.northerndailyleader.com.au/news/local/news/general/kevin-to-have-another-crack-in-state-election/1869698.aspx |author=Ellery, David |title=Kevin to have another crack in state election |work=Northern Daily Leader |date=28 June 2010 |accessdate=3 April 2011 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111008064803/http://www.northerndailyleader.com.au/news/local/news/general/kevin-to-have-another-crack-in-state-election/1869698.aspx |archivedate= 8 October 2011 |df= }} {{stack|{{portal|New South Wales|Elections}}}}2. ^{{Gazette NSW |title=Government Notices |issue=30 |page=1088-1090 |date=2 April 2019 |url=https://gazette.legislation.nsw.gov.au/so/download.w3p?id=Gazette_2019_2019-30.pdf |access-date=3 April 2019 |via= }} 3. ^{{cite press release|url=https://www.nsw.gov.au/news-and-events/news/premier-announces-new-cabinet/|title=Premier announces new Cabinet|publisher=Premier of New South Wales|date=31 March 2019|accessdate=3 April 2019}} 4. ^{{cite news |author=Han, Sophie |url=https://www.smh.com.au/politics/nsw/berejiklian-s-new-massive-cabinet-sworn-in-amid-peals-of-laughter-20190402-p519wj.html |title=Berejiklian's new massive cabinet sworn in amid peals of laughter |work=The Sydney Morning Herald |date=2 April 2019 |accessdate=3 April 2019 }} 5. ^{{cite NSW Parliament |id=81 |name=The Hon.
