Its population was 122,575 in the 2001 Ukrainian Census,[3] and 117,871 {{asof|2012|lc=on}}.[2] GeographyIt is named after the nearby Khortytsia island, a national cultural reserve. The raion is located in the southern portion of the city, on the right-bank of the Dnipro River, neighboring the villages of Baburka and Novoslobidka in Zaporizhia Oblast.[4] Its total area is {{convert|18.81|km2|mi2|abbr=on}}.[4] HistoryThe territory of the Khortytskyi District was first inhabited by German-speaking Mennonites settling the Chortitza Colony in the late 18th century. By the 1960s, the first residential neighborhoods were being constructed in the vicinity, which at the time administratively belonged to the city's Leninskyi District.[4] On 19 January 1995, the Khortytskyi District was established our of a portion of the Leninskyi District by a decree of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.[5] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Khortytskyi District|url=https://meria.zp.ua/test/index.php?id=67|website=Official portal|publisher=Site of the Zaporizhia City Government|accessdate=19 January 2015|language=Ukrainian}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|title=Number of the population of the City of Zaporizhia|url=http://zp.ukrstat.gov.ua/images/stories/Exp_dem_1846.pdf|publisher=State Statistics Service of Ukraine in Zaporizhia Oblast|accessdate=19 January 2015|language=Ukrainian|format=PDF|date=20 June 2012}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Khortytskyi District, Zaporizhia Oblast, City of Zaporizhia|url=http://w1.c1.rada.gov.ua/pls/z7502/A005?rdat1=19.01.2015&rf7571=13151|work=Regions of Ukraine and their Structure|publisher=Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine|accessdate=19 January 2014|language=Ukrainian}} 4. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Territory Baburka|url=http://baburka.zp.ua/|publisher=baburka.zp.ua|accessdate=19 January 2015|language=Russian}} 5. ^{{Cite Ukrainian law|type=Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine decree|number=10/95-ВР|law=10/95-вр|name=Про утворення Хортицького району в місті Запоріжжі (On the establishment of the Khortytsia Raion in the City of Zaporizhia)|date=19 January 2005}} External links
