释义 |
The Kilkenny Canal is a short stretch of unfinished canal which was originally intended to make the River Nore navigable as far as Kilkenny City. Funding for the canal was provided by the Parliament of Ireland in 1755, to the value of £10,000. Work was abandoned in 1761, and no barges ever completed the journey from the navigable section of the Nore to Kilkenny.[1] It is recognised in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.heritageinschools.ie/fileadmin/user_upload/investigations/Kilkenny_History/fifthsixth/documents/The%20Canal.pdf|date=16 January 2009|title=The Canal|accessdate=2014-09-22}} {{coord missing|County Kilkenny}}{{Ireland-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Kilkenny Canal, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny|url=http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KK®no=12401912|website=National Inventory of Architectural Heritage|publisher=Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht|accessdate=30 November 2014}} 3 : Transport in County Kilkenny|Canals in Ireland|Buildings and structures in County Kilkenny |
