Kim competed for the South Korean swimming team in the women's 100 m backstroke at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.[2] Leading up to the Games, she topped the field with a new national mark of 1:03.82 to earn her selection to the Olympic team and register under the FINA B-cut (1:03.86) by four hundredths of a second at the Dong-A Swimming Championships in Ulsan.[3] Rallying from last out of six entrants at the initial length in heat two, Kim fought off a sprint challenge from 13-year-old Kazakh swimmer Yekaterina Rudenko on the final stretch to touch the wall with a fifth-place time in 1:04.63. Kim failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed forty-fourth overall in the prelims.[4] References1. ^{{cite sports-reference|Kim Yu-yeon|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ki/kim-yu-yeon-1.html|18 January 2013}} 2. ^1 {{cite news|title=박태환 등 16명 베이징올림픽 수영대표 확정|trans-title=Park Tae-hwan leads 16 other swimmers into the Olympic pool|language=ko|url=http://news.sbs.co.kr/news/endPage.do?news_id=N1000416519|publisher=Seoul Broadcasting System|date=14 May 2008|accessdate=22 April 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Olympic Cut Sheet – Women's 100m Backstroke|url=http://magazines.swimmingworld.com:9997/SPIPDF/080508olyscutsheet.pdf|format=PDF|page=64|publisher=Swimming World Magazine|accessdate=10 April 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Swimming: Women's 100m Backstroke Heat 2 |url=http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/swimming/resultsandschedules/rsc=SWW041900/index.html |work=Beijing 2008 |publisher=NBC Olympics |accessdate=18 January 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120821032355/http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/swimming/resultsandschedules/rsc%3DSWW041900/index.html |archivedate=21 August 2012 |df= }} External links
