There may have been a divide between these Koguryoic languages and the Han languages, forming two branches of the Koreanic language family.[1] The Ye-Maek language might have been ancestral to Koguryoic or some Koguryoic languages. However, all the Koguryoic languages are very poorly attested. Toponymic evidence suggests they were preceded by Japonic languages.[2] See also
