It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is {{convert|1081|km2|sp=us}}.[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Krasnaya Gora.[3] Population: {{ru-census2010|13,208|;}} 16,863 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|23,26|.}} The population of Krasnaya Gora accounts for 44.7% of the district's total population.
