Municipally, it is incorporated as Kumylzhensky Municipal District.[2] It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is {{convert|2977|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a stanitsa) of Kumylzhenskaya.[4] Population: {{ru-census2010|21,425|;}} 23,499 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|23,647|.}} The population of Kumylzhenskaya accounts for 37.1% of the district's total population.
