Lake Michigan Credit Union was officially chartered in 1933 and was assigned NCUA charter number 62514.[5] HistoryLake Michigan Credit Union was founded in 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, by Lloyd F. Hutt as Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union.[6] On March 1, 2002, the institution changed its name to Lake Michigan Credit Union.[7] In mid-May 2010, the Kalamazoo-based Citizens Credit Union announced that it planned to merge with Lake Michigan Credit Union.[1][8] This merger took place in June 2010 and resulted in the addition of Citizen Credit Union's 9,000 members and $60 million assets to Lake Michigan Credit Union's estimated 168,000 members and $1.87 billion assets.[9][10] In October 2015, Lake Michigan Credit Union and United Federal Credit Union announced their intent to merge.[11] However in January 2016, the two institutions canceled the plan stating they could best serve their members independently.[12] References1. ^1 {{cite news |last=Bakken |first=Rebecca |title=Banking Pays Dividends for These Career-Minded Women |url=http://www.mlive.com/special-sections/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2010/07/banking_pays_dividends_for_the.html |access-date=February 16, 2012 |newspaper=Kalamazoo Gazette |date=July 21, 2010}} 2. ^{{cite news |last=Jones |first=Al |title=What Are the Best Places to Work in Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan? |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2011/04/what_are_the_best_places_to_wo.html |access-date=February 16, 2012 |newspaper=Kalamazoo Gazette |date=April 25, 2011}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=Lake Michigan Credit Union |url=http://www.creditunionsonline.com/credit-union-6286.html |website=Credit Unions Online |access-date=February 16, 2012}} 4. ^{{cite news |last=Martinez |first=Shandra |title=Lake Michigan Credit Union Purchases Van Tol, Magennis and Lang Insurance Agency |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2011/02/lake_michigan_credit_union_pur.html |access-date=February 16, 2012 |newspaper=The Grand Rapids Press |date=February 1, 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web |title=Credit Union Online |url=http://cuonline.ncua.gov/CreditUnionOnline/CU/FindCreditUnions.aspx |website=National Credit Union Administration |access-date=February 16, 2012}} 6. ^{{cite news |last=Wood |first=Deborah Johnson |title=$1.3M Credit Union Adds More Contemporary Architecture to Health Hill |url=http://www.rapidgrowthmedia.com/devnews/LMCU0424.aspx |access-date=March 9, 2012 |newspaper=Rapid Growth |date=April 24, 2008}} 7. ^{{cite web |title=History and Achievements |url=https://www.lmcu.org/membership/History.aspx |website=Lake Michigan Credit Union |access-date=February 16, 2012}} 8. ^{{cite news |last=Jones |first=Al |title=Some of the Ups and Downs in Kalamazoo-Area Business During the Year 2010 |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2010/12/some_of_the_ups_and_downs_in_k.html |access-date=February 16, 2012 |newspaper=Kalamazoo Gazette |date=December 28, 2010}} 9. ^{{cite news |last=Jones |first=Al |title=Kalamazoo-Based Citizens Credit Union Will Merge with Lake Michigan Credit Union |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2010/05/kalamazoo-based_citizens_credi.html |access-date=February 16, 2012 |newspaper=Kalamazoo Gazette |date=May 20, 2010}} 10. ^{{cite news |last=Sanchez |first=Mark |title=Merger Would Add to Credit Union’s Kalamazoo Presence |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2010/05/merger_would_add_to_credit_uni.html |access-date=February 17, 2012 |newspaper=Business Review West Michigan |date=May 13, 2010}} 11. ^{{cite news |title=2 major Michigan credit unions to merge |first=Susan |last=Tompor |newspaper=Detroit Free Press |url=https://www.freep.com/story/money/personal-finance/susan-tompor/2015/10/15/lake-michigan-united-federal-credit-union/73919908/ |date=October 15, 2015 |access-date=January 29, 2019}} 12. ^{{cite news |last=Jim |first=Harger |date=January 8, 2016 |title='Largest Merger in History' Canceled by 2 Michigan Credit Unions |url=http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2016/01/largest_merger_in_credit_union_1.html |newspaper=The Grand Rapids Press |access-date=January 9, 2016 }} External links
