Lawrence "Larry" Snow Damon (born December 8, 1933) is an American cross country skier and biathlete who competed in the 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics.

Early years

Born December 8, 1933 in Burlington, Vermont, Damon attended Burlington High School where he was a four event skier.[1][2]

Career

  • 1951 Wins the State Slalom Championship and comes in second in the Cross-country Championship.[2]
  • 1952-1955 While skiing for UVM, he wins UVM’s first NCAA Cross-country Ski Championship.[2]
  • 1956 Competes in Olympic Men's 15km Cross-country Ski, ranked 51st finishing in 0:57:18.7[3] and Men's 4x10 km Cross-country Ski Relay, ranked 12th with personal time in the 3rd leg of 0:37:27 and total team time of 2:32:04. Relay teammates were Ted Farwell, Mack Miller and Marvin Crawford.[4]
  • 1958-1959 Competes on US Military Biathlon teams.[1]
  • 1959 Wins pre-Olympic North American Biathlon.[2]
  • 1960 Competes in Olympic Men's 20km Biathlon, ranked 24th with total adjusted time of 1:59:38.2.[5]
  • 1961 Wins US Championships in 15 km Cross-country Ski and 30 km Cross-country Ski.[1]
  • 1964 Competes in Olympic Men's 30km Cross-country Ski, ranked 46th finishing in 1:42:57.7[6] and Men's 50km Cross-country Ski, ranked 28th finishing in 3:05:06.04.[7]
  • 1968 Competes in Olympic Men's 15km Cross-country Ski, ranked 55th finishing in 50:37.2[8] and Men's 50km Cross-country Ski, ranked 32nd finishing in 2:41:25.2[9]
  • 1970 Retires from skiing and begins work as a ski instructor at the Trapp Family Lodge.[2]

Damon finished 10th in the 1962 Boston Marathon.[1]

Publicity press and promotions

Damon was inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame in 2010.[2]

Personal life

Damon attended and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1955. After competing in the 1956 Olympic Games, he joined the Army where he competed in biathlon.[2] He is married to Norwegian Olympic cross-country skier, Babben Enger.[1]
