He played at representative level for New Zealand (Heritage № 101), and Wellington, as a {{rlp|SR}}, i.e. number 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.[1][2][3] Early life and familyBorn in Motueka in 1891, Bensemann was educated at Nelson College from 1904 to 1906.[4] He was the uncle of artist Leo Bensemann.
