Libraries Tasmania is the current designation of Tasmanian state government run libraries, and the organisation that operate them.

Libraries Tasmania was known as LINC Tasmania until mid-2018.[1] [2][3]

LINC was an initiative of the Tasmanian Department of Education. It was opened by the former Tasmanian Premier, David Bartlett in 2009 to bring together the services of the State Library of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office (TAHO), LearnXpress (formerly Adult Education Tasmania) and online access centres (public access internet and computer facilities). Its project name was Community Knowledge Network (CKN),[4] and LINC Tasmania facilities received over 3,500,000 in person visits in the year 2010-11.[4]

LINC provided a number of services to the Tasmanian community including:

  • Public library services and facilities
  • Research resources and support
  • LearnXpress / Adult Education courses
  • Adult literacy skills support
  • Access to historical, archival and contemporary information about Tasmania’s Heritage
  • Access to Tasmanian Government records and resources

The name change to Libraries Tasmania was in response to feedback from library users and members of the public requesting that the Department of Education Tasmania re-adopt the term library, and services were not changed in the re-branding.[1]
